Artist Statement
Rebecca Lipps is a multi-faceted artist that is interested in creating an experience for her viewers. She is also an educator in Fort Mill Schools and earned her Master of Fine Arts from Winthrop University. She creates relevant artwork of our time in the form of painting, sculpture, and video installation. This work, Invulnerable Vulnerabilities, highlights her teaching experiences in the classroom by adhering holographic film to desk shields to exaggerate the student’s lack of visibility due to the shield’s reflection. A net of used face masks hangs above, illustrating a feeling of being trapped by the limits the mask created for students.
This colorful work radiates positivity while also representing the classroom struggles of the Covid-19 pandemic. Outside of this work, Rebecca strives to impact her community by installing public artworks, teaching painting classes, and involving herself in arts organizations around Charlotte. Please feel free to interact with the sculpture by stepping inside or taking photographs.
